How Much Does a Personal Trainer Cost in Kamloops?

If you are weighing up a personal trainer in Kamloops, the first question is almost always the same: what does it cost, and is it actually worth it? It is a fair question, and most answers online dodge it. This is the honest version.

I am Jake Richardson. I run JR Training Systems, a private one on one training studio at 2631 Ayr Pl in Brocklehurst. I am going to walk through what personal training actually costs, what makes the price go up or down, and how to tell whether it is worth it for you. If the honest answer for your situation is a gym membership instead, I will say so.

What you are actually paying for

A personal trainer is not a gym membership with a person attached. A membership buys you access to a room full of equipment. A trainer buys you a plan built for your body, someone watching every rep, and the accountability that gets you to actually show up. You are paying for coaching and results, not square footage. That is why the two numbers are not comparable, and why the membership always looks cheaper on paper.

What drives the cost of personal training

The price of personal training moves with a handful of real factors. Knowing them lets you compare like for like instead of chasing the lowest sticker.

    • Session frequency. One session a week costs less per month than three, but the rate per session is usually similar. More frequency buys faster results, not a higher price tag.
    • One on one versus group. Private one on one is the most individual and the most expensive per session. Semi private and group classes cost less because the coach attention is split across the room.
    • In person versus hybrid versus remote. Fully coached in person sessions cost the most. Hybrid, which is remote programming plus a few in person sessions a month, sits in the middle. Fully remote online coaching is the most affordable way to train on a real plan.
    • Packages versus pay as you go. Buying a block of sessions usually lowers the per session cost. Drop in rates are the most expensive way to pay.
    • The coach education and setting. A certified coach in a private studio writing custom programs costs more than a floor trainer at a chain handing out a template. You are paying for the judgement, not the building.

The price ranges you will see in Kamloops

Rather than quote numbers that go stale, here is how the Kamloops market is structured, from lowest base cost to most hands on:

    • A chain gym membership with trainer sessions sold separately. Lowest base cost, but coaching is an add on and often a rotating floor trainer.
    • An independent trainer renting floor space. Mid range, and it varies a lot with the trainer experience.
    • A private studio with one on one coaching. Higher per session, because the room and the coach full attention are yours for the hour.
    • Online or hybrid coaching. The most affordable way to train on a custom plan, because you are paying for the programming and check ins rather than the room.

If you are weighing a private studio against a big box gym more broadly, I break that down in how to choose a private gym in Kamloops.

The cheaper option is not always cheaper

The fairest way to compare is not the monthly fee. It is the cost per session you actually complete, measured against the result you actually wanted. Work it out before you sign anything:

    1. Take the monthly cost of the option you are considering.
    2. Be honest about how many times you will really go. Most people overestimate this by about double.
    3. Divide. That is your true cost per session.
    4. Then ask what those sessions produced the last time you paid for them.

A cheap membership you use four times a month is not cheap. A cheap membership you use zero times is infinitely expensive. The number on the door is rarely the number that matters.

When a personal trainer is worth it, and when it is not

A trainer is worth the money when the thing stopping you is not access to equipment. In my experience it pays off most for:

    • Total beginners, where the first few months decide whether training becomes a habit or a story about the year you tried.
    • Anyone training around injury, pain, or a recent surgery, where form matters far more than effort.
    • People who have plateaued after a year or more training on their own.
    • Anyone who simply will not stay consistent without accountability.

It is not worth it if you already have a program that works, you enjoy training alone, and your numbers are still climbing. In that case a membership is the better buy, and I will tell you so.

What training with me costs you, and gets you

At JR Training Systems you train one on one with me in a private studio, every session coached start to finish, on a program written for your goal, your history and your schedule. I hold NSCA CPPS, Precision Nutrition Level 1, and FST Level 2, so the training and the nutrition guidance both come from certified education. The studio holds a 5.0 rating across 164 reviews, and I coach ages 8 to the 90s.

If budget is the constraint, there are lighter ways in. Hybrid training pairs remote programming with a couple of in person sessions a month, and The JRTS Method is fully online coaching for $10 a month. You do not have to start with the most expensive option to train on a real plan. If you are not sure which fits, fitness programs is a good place to start.

Pricing depends on session frequency and package length. Call or text for current rates.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does a personal trainer cost in Kamloops?

It depends on format and frequency. Group and chain sessions cost the least per session, private one on one the most, and online coaching is the most affordable way to train on a custom plan. For JR Training Systems, pricing depends on session frequency and package length, so call or text for current rates.

Why does private one on one training cost more than a gym membership?

Because they are different products. A membership buys equipment access. One on one training buys a custom plan, a coach watching every rep, and the accountability that gets results. You are paying for coaching, not the room.

Is a personal trainer worth the money?

If what is stopping you is a missing plan, poor technique, an injury, or no accountability, then yes, a trainer solves those and a membership does not. If you already train well on your own and keep progressing, it is not worth it and a membership is the better buy.

Do you offer packages or pay as you go?

Pricing depends on session frequency and package length. Call or text and I will walk you through the options for your goal.

Is online coaching cheaper than training in person?

Yes. The JRTS Method is fully online coaching for $10 a month, because you are paying for the programming and check ins rather than private studio time. Hybrid training sits in between.

Can I try it before committing?

Yes. Book a free consult and we will map out what training should actually cost for your goal, even if the answer is a different option.
